Pam-- Thank you for writing such an insightful paper about what you have learned from being in therapy. I am currently a graduate student and have worked with a handful of adults. It was nice to read your paper and get your insights about "us" (SLP's) and what we do. I especially liked your line, "I felt like a non-person when a clinician would sit across from me as I read, and she would put slash marks through the words I stuttered on". It just makes me more aware of keeping data during important times during therapy. I also liked how you talked about including the client in the goal writing. I try to do that with my adult clients and feel that is so important. Not all clients like to be so active in that process as it sounds like you do so I think that is great! I also liked how you talked about how your clinician doesn’t have you do anything that she wouldn’t do. That is great! When I took my undergraduate Fluency class we had to make phone calls or go to a store and purposely stutter and record our feelings. This was helpful for me to understand a little bit what it feels like to stutter. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. Question: What stuttering modifications or strategies have worked best for you to reduce your disfluencies?
