Hi Tori, Thanks for the comments and question. I have experienced several forms of therapy with student clinicians. I have worked one-on-one with one clinician, with two clinicians (when there has been more students than client!!), and I have participated in group. I think group is very helpful. It helps people challenge assumptions, and realize that maybe their thinking has been sort of "tunnelled visioned". its always good to hear from other people who stutter. The most effective is when the group topic is a really thought provoking one,l that encourages honestly and thinking about stuttering in a different way..... The individual therapy can be very productive as well. But it can be awkward with more than one clinician. It has to be give and take, and shared goals. I find it hard to really focus on fluency shaping targets because I know I am not always going to use them in the "real world". So to practice them in clinic setting doesn't always seem real to me. You as the SLP really need to figure out what would be most meaningful for the PWS, and involve the client in that process. It should never be about just fulfilling a class requirement.
