Christal, thanks for reading and leaving the nice comments! I think not knowing what I really wanted out of therapy provided two things: 1. honesty. I was not going in with any pre-conceived notions of wanting or thinking that I would be fixed. It gave me and the clinician equal footing and allowed me to open to what the clinician could teach me about speech production. 2. It provided a disadvantage in that I was the typical fluency client who i/was focused on a specific speech target. So goals each semester were not easy to define. BUT, when I was honest and the clinician knew and respected where I was coming from, it made it easier for us to approach the process together. I think ultimately what I wanted was to know that stuttering is OK, that I could stutter freely and that it was alright not wanting to be fixed. Hope that makes sense!
