Hey Natalie. Thanks for your input. Interesting question you ask - what advise would I give to younger PWS as it relates to hiding their speech? I would start off by telling them not to. I would tell them to try and be themselves and remind them that we are all different and unique in our own way, that seperates us from everyone else. I would encourage them to talk to their friends and family about their stuttering and teach them about what stuttering is all about. That is waht causing many of us to hide - that fear of being laughed at, looked as if we are stupid, etc. If everyone in the world knew about stuttering, what causes it and how to react to it, I think PWS would all feel more accepted. But, before we can expect anyone else to accept us, we have to accept ourselves. Overall, it is good to get the parents on board too so they can convey the same positive message and provide encouragement from someone they look up to and are with most of the time. Having a role model helps!
