I actually began advertising my stutter last year so I'm still relatively new to this. Accepting my stutter became much easier when I began disclosing the fact that I'm a PWS to other people. Once I was overt, I realized how many people did not care about it as much as I thought they would. Most people are understanding and become more comfortable when the PWS doesn't try to hide it. When I start treating my future patients who are covert PWS, I would encourage them to attend support groups and become involved with NSA. I would also focus on helping them accept their stutter and teach them a few fluency shaping techniques. Once again, thank you for sharing your story!
