Kelly, such a good question! The techinques that work for me is simply avoiding stuttering. Voluntary stuttering I can not do, I have tried, but if I hate it when I naturally stutter, I can't imagine stuttering on purpose. For me, it was meeting other people who stuttered just like me, or who avoided just like me, and seeing how they deal with it. I had to work on acceptance first and realizing that it is part of who I am. Even though I realize that now, it doesn't mean I like it but I am okay with it. I still will continue to hide it but if I can't always, I let it go much faster than before. So if you encounter a similar situation like mine in the future, I would highly recommend connecting them to people who stutter, especially covert people who stutter, and dealing with the emotional part of it. For covert PWS they have spend years being ashamed about their stuttering and that led them to hiding. To deal with the reasons why and come up with a plan to face those fears head on, will have an affect on their overall speech. The more confidence a person has about their speech, the more fluent I really think they will be. Keep up the good work! Keep on reading all about it!
