My stuttering was not really discussed as a child. I wasn't that severe and when I started hiding, my parents probably thought it went away. Who knows what may have been had I remained open about it and the therapies I had were not helpful at all - just practicing reading words. It would have been more beneficial to deal with the emotional effects of stuttering too, maybe I would not have gone into hiding! :-)
