Jennifer: There have been several ways contributors have been invited in the past. There is a standing open invitation for individuals to submit manuscripts for consideration of publication. Surprisingly, we receive only a handful of contributors in this fashion. We have been trying to increase the number of unsolicited manuscripts (we recently sent out an email blast on the Division 4 listserv). Often, presenters at ASHA or at the Division Leadership Conference are encouraged to submit a manuscript for review on the topic of their presentation. Input is also provided to the editor and associate editor by the Division Steering Committee regarding desired topics for Perspectives issues and/or possible authors. During my tenure as editor most of the Perspectives issues have been theme related, and with these issues, the majority of contributors had been invited based on their expertise related to the overall theme. The most recent issue had a guest editor who invited authors, recognized experts in the field, to write on the topic of cluttering. We are always on the lookout for manuscripts. As I mentioned in the article, all submitted papers go through a peer review process, so the actual determination of whether an article is appropriate for publication is done by the Division Review Board.
