This falls under the "educating relevant parties" heading. We know a variety of risk factors that suggest that stuttering may be more likely to persist in a child, but cannot say with certainty that a child's stuttering will or will not become a chronic problem. If insurers are aware that early intervention generally takes less time and is more effective than treatment provided after a child has been stuttering for a few years, they may be more likely to be interesting in paying for this shorter-term treatment with better long-term outcomes. One could also argue, however, that since these early intervention treatments do tend to be more effective and of short duration, the expense to the parent, without the need for third-party reimbursement, may be relatively low. Lower, for example, than piano lessons or gymnastics lessons. It may be up to the parent to decide how much they are willing to spend out of pocket.
