As seen in several of the articles in the online conference, this is an excellent visual for clients to make of their therapy journey, whether they are children, teens or even adults. I can see where clients may wonder why they are doing certain exercises or where the therapy is leading to. Having a map to refer to can be helpful in showing them, as you mentioned, the “big picture,” and that there is a certain path to travel to reach their fluency destination. I think having the client make a map would also show the therapist the client’s perspective of where they feel they are in therapy and what their goals are; what they want to achieve in therapy, (when dealing with teens and adults), which may be different than what the therapist had in mind. I like the fact that the map can change as new avenues or problems emerge. Is this concept in the book , The Source for Stuttering, that you co-authored?
