When/how do you know that it is the “right time” to implement this part of your therapy? While it is easy to follow the book and learn many different ways to interact with your client who stutters, how do you know when the time is right for you to acknowledge or have them acknowledge their stuttering? Should you even address this at all – or should you continue to provide a good speech model and keep the environment comfortable? What happens if you implement the process of making the client aware of their disfluencies too early? Is this something that can be “withdrawn” (how) or do you even feel as though this is a problem?
