Ari, thank you for your comments. I appreciate your view that “it is very hard to stop the talking when all your body just want to go on.” My experience has been that some people who stutter share this view while others feel that pausing helps the speaker move forward in his or her speech. It has been my own personal experience that when I anticipate stuttering, taking a brief pause or stop and then gently initiating my speech helps me move forward. I have had clients share the same. And of course, some people who stutter are able to use pausing effectively to reduce stuttering and report, “But pausing is so unnatural – I don’t want to use it.” All of these experiences are valid.
