Ari, I am so glad you brought up this point. I have written a few other articles about pausing that focused on using pausing as a rate control speaking strategy to reduce the frequency of stuttering. See these links: (http://www.journalofstuttering.com/1-2/Reitzes.2006.JSTAR.1.64-78.pdf and http://www.journalofstuttering.com/1-3/Reitzes.2006.JSTAR.1.102-110.pdf In this ISAD article, I focused on how pausing may be used to “modify traditional speech tools, reduce moments of stuttering and prevent moments of stuttering.” Perhaps this is a good time for me to mention that when I was working hard on pausing I was also focusing on stuttering openly (letting it out), using a lot of voluntary stuttering, easy initiations, advertising, etc. For me, it was helpful to have many strategies to use.
