Interesting article. I believe that alll speakers can benefit from a pause to collect their thoughts or re-initiate what they were planning to say. It can be an effective strategy for a person who stutters. I was wondering what you suggest for monitoring whether the pause is being used correctly as a speech tool and not as a means of avoidance. How would you suggest this monitoring take place so the pausing tool can be used in the right manner? Quote: "The speaker and the SLP need to monitor the different uses of pausing to make sure it is being used productively and not as an avoidance behavior. Stopping to take a normal breath and planning how to proceed can be a productive and powerful tool to have in a person's repertoire."
