Paula, thank you for writing – great question. My experience has been that just about anything a person who stutters does may (and probably does) lead to stuttering (including blocking) at different times. For example, I am a big proponent of voluntary stuttering and I know firsthand and from my clients that voluntary stuttering may lead to real stuttering at times. The fact is, people who stutter are going to stutter at times and stuttering moments will sometimes occur while we are working on our speech. When working on pausing, a person may block, which is of course a great time to suggest using other speech tools in conjunction with pausing such as pull-outs, cancellations, etc.
