Toni, avoidance questions are always great! Generally speaking, I have found that meeting other people who stutter, talking about stuttering, stuttering openly (letting it out) and stuttering on purpose are a good start for, as you say, evading avoidance. I was a covert stutterer up into my early twenties and used voluntary stuttering every day for three to three and half years. The more I stuttered, the more I met other stutterers, and the more I talked openly about stuttering, the less I avoided.
