Good article, Peter. I like your analysis of pauses in the speech flow as a means of planning what to do next to facilitate relative fluency. I think this is better than having the stutterer constantly striving to "move forward" in speaking-- which may end up as tension and forcing as the stutterer determines to 'get the word out' come what may. Admittedly, it is sometimes difficult to know jusat how any particular stutterer will react to ('interiorize') what the clinician says to them. Stutterer A may react favorably to being told to "move forward" in his speech, while Stutterer B may begin to force and struggle while trying to do so. My point is that it is very difficult to know just which therapy technique is the most effective for all (or the most) stutterers. l --or the majority -- of stutterers.
