Dave, thanks for writing. You bring up some great points. You write, “it is very difficult to know just which therapy technique is the most effective for all (or the most) stutterers.” I agree with this. It is also interesting that some people who stutter appear to benefit from using a specific tool such as pausing, but they may choose not to use it because of personal preference. For example, so of my clients have been able to use pausing effectively, as a rate control strategy, to reduce the frequency of stuttering, however choose not to use the tool because they find pausing to be awkward or frustrating.
