Ari, great question. I have been thinking about how to respond for the past day. It is always tricky answering a question as specific as yours, so let me stay general. I personally use gentle onsets to prevent stuttering, to initiate easy speech (when I anticipate stuttering) and to pull-out of stutters. For example, when I am stuttering I may use a gentle onset as a pull-out to move forward through the word. Sometimes a pull-out isn’t so easy and gentle and turns into a “forceful-out” or a “push-out.” Sometimes I focus on the sound I am stuttering on, sometimes I focus on the sound which proceeds the stuttering, and when I anticipate stuttering I may focus on the sound which precedes the anticipated stutter. I think experimenting with easy onset (gentle onsets) and with other speech tools is what is really important. Hope this helps. Thanks again for writing Ari.
