Tim, thanks again for writing. You bring up many interesting points. You wrote, “The pause allows time to relax the anatomy…” My gut feeling on the matter has been the same and there is some research to support such a theory. However, I am also quick to point out that regardless of why we think pausing may helpful for many, at the end of the day, people who stutter will determine if pausing is helpful or not, regardless of theories that attempt to explain why. For me, pausing reduces the frequency of my stuttering, helps me feel grounded, and helps me move forward through words.
