Chris, You're an excellent writer. Your realizations that it's not about what others think about us, hit home, as others have said. A friend lent me a book this summer that helped me get my head around this relevation. It's by Don Miguel Ruiz and its entitled "A practical guide to personal freedom: a Toltec Book of Wisdom: The Four Agreements." One of the four agreements is "Don't take things personally." By this he explains he means that nothing others do is really because of you. Instead what others say and do are a projection of their own reality. When we become immune to the opinions and actions of others, we aren't the victims of needless suffering. We can be open and interested in others' opinions of us without being inadvertently led around by them, is my interpretation... Anyway, I'm excited to invite a client I've worked with to read your paper and posts - he stutters and wants to get a start in a banking and finance career.
