Thanks, Nikki, for your kind words and thoughtful insight. Isn't it amazing how much we are driven and motivated by what others think OR, more correctly, what we perceive others must certainly be thinking about us! You said it well in how they encourage you in school to not worry about what others think about you -- but I guarantee in realty the instructor who tells you that is darn well focused on his or her own status with their peers, respect from the deans, and creditability with their students! It's human nature to want the respect and favor from those that we respect and want acceptance from. However, we can't control anything of how they believe or feel and only how we conduct ourselves and our own choices and behaviors. The wise person who stutters finally figures out that stuttering has nothing to do with this whatsoever. Sadly, life often require us to live over half of it before we finally figure it out...and we still have lots of figuring out to do when it come to how we're still concerned about what the other guy thinks. I once heard that it's the naked guy walking around who truly is the only person in the world who doesn't care what others think. That nakedness can simply mean never covering up who we are, what we think or what we're made of. We strive toward that honesty but it is a journey and not a destination to wear out the old tired cliche. Thanks, again Nikki, for participating and your valuable perspective and POV. Good luck with your work and studies. Chris
