Paula, yours is one of the best questions I've ever been asked about my stuttering! I never thought whether or not I had those fears but that they simply never manifested themselves because I was insulated in an environment that didn't incorporate teasing, judgment or criticism from others? Great question and I don't know the answer! I do recall that my first fears began to develop when I began to develop self-doubt in my study choices, major selection, etc. (see I wanted to be an Architect as a childhood dream but passed on it in college because I couldn't pronounce it without stuttering -- Finance, I could say, so figured that was an easier career choice....and never did like it from the time I hit my first business class in college!) You've stumped me so I need to think about this for awhile. Incredible and wonderful question! The vulnerability always existed but just remain latent because others hadn't started stirring it up yet? Paula, you'll do well. Great curiosity you have outside the box! You'll make a difference. Wish you would have been my SLP! Chris
