Harriett, great comments and observations. I'm sure because I didn't have to confront teasing or ridicule as a young person that I didn't have to develop defensive strategies -- until later. However, it did enable me to develop my normal strengths, personality, mind and socialization as normal as any other child could. I think that has been my greatest strength over a lifetime of dealing with the negative voices through the strengths of normalcy and acceptance that I honed over my childhood and adolescence.
