I started speech theory at Purdue in the beginning of 2002, if my memory serves. I worked on speech with varying levels of focus and undergraduate and graduate school, finishing in 2007. I’ve been working on speech in Maryland for about a year and a half. Do I feel the need to tell people I stutter? Great question! It depends on the situation. The reality is that I still struggle in a lot of situations, you WILL hear that and you WILL see that. If you don’t know why, it is distracting from communication. Here are some examples where I will say something about speech to my listen(s): Job Interviews, and technical presentation at my job to unfamiliar audiences. I’m not apologizing for stuttering, I’m letting my audience know that they’re going to hear something different, and what that is; so they don’t have to wonder about it. At this point in my journey, I’m not advertising for myself, I’m advertising to help other people understand
