Elliot I believe that consistence and persistence prevail over drastic actions done in desperation. Running off a cliff will not teach us to fly. That being said, being willing to take risks and approach speech in a different manor is key. Is my speech different in different situations? You better believe it! Hang out with me at the bar at NSA with the circle of speech friends who I’ve known for a while, and open stuttering is open season! Put me at a professional engineering conference, and you’re going to hear me block, and struggle a fair bit. Why? I’m the same person in both places, same psychology, same physiology, but a different outcomes. I think of it like sports or performing arts, you don’t show up at the big game, or big gig and try something new when everything is on the line. You execute on what you’ve practiced. In practice you build up your skill. Oh and by the way, most fluent people really pay a lot less attention to our speech than we think. Really, spend some time observing this, I think its pretty interesting. If you did do more open stuttering at work or other harder situations, chances are you won’t really freak anyone out. How long have you been working on stuttering more openly? Reuben
