Thank you so much for sharing this paper with us. Your words and thoughts are truly inspirational. Ever since I started my undergraduate work in communication disorders I have learned that when treating a person with a speech or language disorder, you cannot just treat the disorder. You have to treat each individual you work with as a person first. There is so much more to a person than their disability. I think it is especially important for people who stutter to realize that they may stutter, but that is not who they are. I have been a student of Dr. Shapiro's for the last 4.5 years and he is also a big supporter of helping clients realize what they are doing right, not just what is going wrong. I think that is an amazing philosophy to go by. Not just for therapy purposes, but for all aspects in life. Who wants to be told what they are doing wrong all of the time? I know I certainly don't. I would love if you could offer me some advice as how to promote this idea that "you are not a disorder" to clients. Especially to young children who may be teased because of their stuttering. I am fascinated by your visualization technique. Is that something you find yourself using frequently? I think it could be a vital tool for adults especially. Great paper! I love your writing. Thanks again for sharing.
