Dr. Silverman, I truly appreciate the way in which you are able to bring a sense of healing to what can be a very clinical area. I am a graduate student working towards my MS in SLP. An illness had taken me away from my studies and the practice of mindfulness, presence, and non-resistance has facilitated my recent return. I have always appreciated our field because of the way in which we stress treating the individual not the diagnosis. This concept is especially pervasive in the course I am presently taking on disorders of fluency. Your article brought much cohesion to the many areas we are discussing in class (avoidance, treatment techniques, counseling considerations). I look forward to exploring more of your publications as it helps me “do my work” and I hope to bring this orientation to my clinical practice. Please keep sharing!
