I'm a first year graduate student at NYU taking a course on fluency. We recently had an assignment that included voluntary stuttering and easy onset in public situations and it was a great insight to experience what PWS encounter, even though it is not even close to what PWS actually experience. The assignment really highlighted the behavioral, affective, and cognitive aspects associated with stuttering. I think most of the time people with a limited knowledge base on stuttering only focus on the surface behaviors and do not realize the emotional effects stuttering encompasses. This was a great article to raise awareness on the feelings and emotions associated with stuttering. The notion of client directed therapy is also a great issue because what works great for one client may not work so well for another. As well as what bothers one client about their stuttering may not be an issue for another.
