I really enjoyed reading your article. I had never heard about Marty Jezer’s book, and your article makes me want to go right out and purchase it. It is very helpful for clinicians/therapists to remember that their clients come first and not the disorder. You highlighted some very important points to remember and were able to back them up with experiences from Marty’s life. Sometimes we become so focused on treating someone that we forget that there are other aspects to their disorder that might make treatment more effective. This article also does not strictly apply to stuttering but can be applied to individuals with other disorders as well. Also, I continually see numerous articles that focus on the importance of client-centered therapy programs, and your article again reiterates that fact. I find this aspect of therapy, especially with individuals who stutter to be very important. Thanks for contributing this article because it really sheds light on an important aspect of therapy.
