Thank you for outlining Marty Jezer’s list of “wants” for therapy. It’s always humbling and enlightening to try and take the perspective of a person who stutters, rather than inserting my own parochial view. It seems that there needs to be a delicate balance – aware that there are real obstacles in society, but still taking responsibility for their own behavior. Throughout your clinics in graduate school, have you found one of the biggest obstacles in providing services to people who stutter to be overcoming self-defeatist attitudes?
