It is very helpful to receive the point of view of someone who stutters and to understand what it is that they want out of therapy. As an SLP student I am taking a fluency course this semester and we needed to go out into public and stutter for an assignment. Although I was nervous about partaking in this activity I found it to be a priceless experience. I found myslef constantly avoiding situations as Marty pointed out. I would cut my sentences as short as I possibly could and use my facial expressions and gestures to avoid speaking. This is something that should be worked on with someone who is trying to improve their fluency.
