The statement is based on a few research projects conducted in USA investigating cultural differences toward stuttering and other speech disorders and other disorders. Also, it can be said true based on my personal experience and many anecdotal stories I have heard. The social awareness toward stuttering might have been improved a little bit. I think this is a general trend that comes with the economic development. People now are more aware of these quality of life issues. However, nowadays these stuttering self-help groups are mainly limited within pws and in the internet, and only limited media exposure have been achieved. There is still a long way to go.
