Hi Whitney and Jodi, Thank you for reading my paper and providing feedback. You enquire how (as future SLPs) you can create a greater public awareness about stuttering. May I suggest that you read an article (entitled ‘Increasing Public Awareness’) that I wrote for the British Stammering Association magazine ‘Speaking Out’ in 2003. Here is the link: http://www.stammering.org/increasingawareness.html It outlines my own experiences of addressing community organisations and approaching the media, while also offering suggestions as to how others may follow suit. You may also derive benefit from reading the threaded discussion attached to Jim McClure’s 2010 ISAD Conference paper ‘Explaining Stuttering to the Media’. In response to comments about the inaccurate portrayal of stuttering in the media, Jim questions why SLPs do not undertake a more active role in counteracting this image. I wish you every success with your studies. Kindest regards Alan
