Hello Katie. Thank you very much for your comments/question. Really Katie, We the stuttering family has as a goal to make a world that understands stuttering. That is why we are bent on extending stuttering awareness and help all around the globe. Stutterers need to know where they can get help. Stuttering organisations and support groups are then very important. If family members, friends, colleagues, etc… should be supportive in making the experience of self-help groups more beneficial, then i would say that they first of all have to examine their feelings towards stuttering and make sure that they are positive before getting into any meaningful support. Any support should be in the platform of goodwil and good faith. If you have a family member or close friend with whom you have a good and trusting relationship, he or she may be able to render you valuable service in many ways. "What i needed was not an authority but a friend and collaborator genuinely interested in me and ready to help me. I was fortunate to have a brother who could be this friend.(Freud) Freinds can act as obserers, such a person may be able to see and hear things of which you may not be aware. It is also possible that when you are studying the way you stutter such a friend could duplicate your stuttering to help you become aware of what you are doing when you are having trouble. Friends could accompany you on some of your assignments, complement you on your efforts, give you moral supportby encouraging you to carry on and persevere untill you reach your goal. Katie, does this help?
