Licensing is definitely a BIG issue. Currently it is against the law to treat an individual who is in another state. As Dick pointed out, being licensed in multiple states is problematic. Though I am currently considering doing just this. In time, I think this issue will be resolved, but currently, an SLP must have a license in the state in which the client is receiving treatment, not the state in which the clinician is providing treatment. It's funny, my understanding is that we (as SLPs) can legally provide treatment to someone in another country, but not in our neighboring state. We need SLPs and PWS's to contact ASHA and tell them how important this issue is. Barbara... thanks for being the impetus for such a great discussion!
