Thank you for posting this article. I found it very informative. I read a recent article, "Randomized controlled non-inferiority trial of a telehealth treatment for chronic stuttering: the Camperdown Program," that also discussed the pros and cons of therapy via telecommunication. This study, done by Brenda Carey, Sue O’Brian, Mark Onslow, Susan Block, Mark Jones, and Ann Packman, was known as the Camperdown Program. The study compared the outcome of patients who received treatment for stuttering face to face to those who received the treatment by telecommunication. The outcome showed no significant difference in the frequency of stuttering exhibited in either trial. I thought that there would be a significant difference in favor of face to face therapy, but was pleased to discover that this was not the case. I do have a few questions for you. First, do you find that conducting sessions with a webcam make it harder to identify and address any escape or avoidance behaviors? Secondly, do you ever have any preliminary face to face meetings before starting the online sessions? I would be very interested to hear your thoughts and experiences.
