First of all , great story. I can relate to almost every aspect. I was extrememly covert for the majority of my life, until 4 years ago, my true self was screaming so loud to be unleashed that I had no choice. Stuttering openly now (most of the time) is so liberating. My family relations are as well strained, with us hardly talking about stuttering. Have not had a conversation with parents about it, and have only talked to two of my 5 siblings about it, twice. As for Toastmasters, I too experienced the same terror. For my foirst meeting, I sat in my car across the street for 45 minutes getting up the courage to go in. I joinerd and gave my icebreaker 2 months later. On stuttering, and I cried half way through. But like you, the club was impressed with my willingness to push myself. Since then, I was treasurer, VPE and President. I am now in two TM clubs, and just earned my ACG in August of this year. Not many people close to me know this either, as they just don't get what an accomplishment its been for me to do all these speeches. I am so glad you shared your story. I visited Englad this past spring, and atteneded a BSA meeting and met some grerat people. Thanks for this story!
