Hi "SJU- Cassie" ! Thanks for posting. To answer your questions, I don't remember having a speech problem at all in India. I was a shy kid, but there wasn't any incidence where I felt fear of speaking, or of certain words. Stuttering was something that was outside my sphere of knowledge. In London, I don't remember having any problems either speech-wise of otherwise. In fact, even though I couldn't speak English, I found I was treated VERY well, and made to feel part of the class in school whilst I learnt the language. Often the teacher would speak to me, and I would just have a blank look on my face, as I didn't understand what I was being asked. The first day I became concious of my stutter was when I had a problem saying my name. At that moment I felt the fear build up, and that evening I kept asking myself "What happened to me today? Why couldn't I speak?" And thus began the phobia. Now, it's quite possible that I had a mild stutter earlier which other people noticed and which I was totally oblivious to until that day. I've yet to break down the barriers and ask my mother this question. But that day will soon come. Many thanks, and take care.
