Hello Abigail, yes I think we have increasing evidence that parents are essential in therapy for many reasons, and one of these is that they can help their child in their everyday lives. It is important that the SLP trains parents not just to correct their child but also when to comment on their smooth talking. We know that knowing not to stutter does not give the child any idea of what they are to do and might be what they are trying to do before they start therapy. The feedback on smooth talking or stutter-free talking helps the child know what they are aiming for, it draws their attention towards the speech pattern they want more of. So always more feedback for stutter- free speaking than requests the self-correction. Best wishes
