Hello Scott, I’m glad you felt invited to respond and thank you for your interesting response . One of the delights of the LP is that it seems to help the children view their speaking as a behaviour and therefore something they can change rather than as a an essential part of who they are. Of course the way we speak it is an essential part of who we are but if we want to change it in any way it is a great help to understand that there are behaviours and skills that make up our unique communication style. With the LP many children become very matter of fact about their bumpy words and learn to correct them in just the way they learn to ride a bike, develop their drawing skills or get better at scoring goals etc. When therapy works like this there doesn’t seem to be a need to address some of the other things that you talk about in your response. I certainly agree with what you are saying in relation to older children and adults and look forward to reading more about your application of concepts from contextual psychology to stuttering.
