Hi Nicole, I’m not sure I am in complete agreement about lack of confidence. Part of our job as a therapist is to help the parent and child to feel more confident about their ability to work more successfully with their stuttering. We may not always achieve this but if we are sensitive and work at a pace that is right that the parents and the child then I think we can help them gradually feel more confident. Sometimes parents can’t feel confident with their role in the therapy until the child begins to make progress. I think this is understandable as we all benefit from concrete evidence that what we are doing is helpful. I think you make an important point though and as clinicians we should never underestimate how important it is to help parents feel more confident and more competent. Best wishes
