To tell you the truth I am not sure. I started stuttering in the early 60’s. Because there was little help and my parents had no support I think it just happened over time. But, it dose lend its self to how important help is at an early age. Once the child inside the child, no matter the age, stops talking its too late. That is what happened to me. I stopped talking and turn inside. Time plus ne decision equals a decision. I watched as my childhood pass by to intimidated to participate in it. Once I got behind, in school, in dating, friendships in general I felt it was impossible to catch up. I taught myself how to be fluent but at a very high price. My key, the more I cared about how people perceived me and my stutter the more I stuttered so, I simply stopped caring. You have to care more about the child than you do about the stutter.
