I really enjoyed reading your article and found it very interesting. I cannot even begin to imagine what life must be like for people that choose to avoid words. This creates such a barrier to communication, not to mention the amount of mental energy expended when trying to come up with replacement words so that a similar message is conveyed. I think it’s really sad that individuals who avoid even go as far to change their name. I was wondering when clients who avoid come to speech therapy, how long does it typically take for them to break down these avoidances so they can receive help? Does it have a lot to do with the length of time a person has been avoiding words? Thanks so much for sharing this article!
