I found this article extremely interesting! In my stuttering course, we have talked about avoidance, but I have never thought about it to this extent. I took your advice and talked to my friend for three minutes without using the “r” sound and it was incredibly difficult and frustrating. I cannot imagine having to do this every day all the time. As a student clinician, I find that this exercise and others similar have helped me become a more effective clinician. Is this an appropriate exercise to have the caregiver or family do to help understand their loved one’s difficulties, whether it be an articulation problem or stuttering?
