I thought that your article was very inspirational. Your life has been quite a journey, and it is amazing how you have faced and conquered all the challenges that have been brought before you with such determination. I am in graduate school for speech language pathology and was wondering about your first experiences with speech therapy. When your mother took you to speech therapy what happened initially? Did you learn anything that helped you lighten your load at this time, or did your home environment keep you from progression? When you starting working with Marybeth and had to voluntarily stutter, did you find that the majority of individuals’ reactions towards you were positive or negative? How did this affect you? Finally, what are the skills that have worked best for you in working with and accepting your stuttering as a part of who you are? Hopefully, I haven’t asked too many questions, and feel free to answer whatever you would like. I would appreciate any insight that you can give me, as I am sure that I will be working with clients who feel the need to cover up stuttering somewhere down the road. I really enjoyed reading about your journey and found it to be very thought provoking and uplifting.
