Amanda, for an answer to your first question about reaching covert stutterers, please read my response to Danielle Miron's post as she asked a similar question. If my family could have been educated early on, I feel it would have made a huge difference for me. In fact, when I speak to classes of graduate SLP students and they ask what I most want them to know about treating stuttering, I always say, you must educate the whole family. Educate them about what stuttering is and about listening patiently and modeling good speech patterns in the family home as well as accepting stuttering. Hannah
