Abby, I was seeing a counselor for a year and a half before I sent the first e-mail to the two SLP's asking for help. It took me that long to really confront my stuttering as the main issue I needed to be working on in my life. Since then, I have a clear understanding of the need to own what is part of me. In this case, it's stuttering. Notice I say, part of me. I also have to work every day to know stuttering does not define all of me but like I said in the paper, if I deny it is part of me, I can't cope with it directly. Through my life, I have done a lot of studying of spiritual paths and psychotherapy. Perhaps that studying is the one positive thing that came out of my isolated life in the woods. It gave me awareness. Thank you for your comments and interest. Hannah
