Hi Jenny, Thanks for your question! There are many films and TV shows which depict characters who stutter. I’m not aware of any researchers who have reviewed these shows and movies in terms of their potential use in a therapy program. However, I just came upon an article which lists many specific examples: “The Visualization of the Twisted Tongue: Portrayals of Stuttering in Film, Television, and Comic Books” in the Journal of Popular Culture (2008). The author concludes that people who stutter are frequently portrayed in a stereotypical way in popular media. ****** According to the SFA, a new movie opening in November, The King’s Speech, will center on the story of King George VI and his work with a speech therapist to manage his stuttering. I’m eager to watch the movie and see if and how it would be beneficial in any of my therapy sessions!
