I'm less familiar with cartoon depictions of stuttering than I am with these books. The main cartoon I'm thinking of is, of course, Porky (the?) Pig. I think people who stutter have widely varying reactions to the Porky cartoons, and I can imagine that some folks find them painful to watch. So, in general, I think it's important to see how stuttering is portrayed (whether it be in books, movies, cartoons) and then, given what you know about your client, decide whether that portrayal is suitable for the person.
